Pip waiting time new claim

I started the claim in June I had my assessment on the 12th August. Been on the phone to the case manager and they saidits gone back to the assessment provider and they have asked for my doctors notes twice they now have everything this ws last week. I'm still waiting on an outcome . It's been ten weeks on Monday

I no, it stressful waiting around for PIP to make a decision. I applied for PIP at the beginning of February and I have only just had my letter (beginning on October), and sorry to say I did not pass, so I have had to sent in a mandatory reconsideration last week. So my hope is that I get that decision soon so I can put my tribunal appeal because it very unlikely the mandatory reconsideration will overturn the original decision has I think there is only like a 5-10% chance.

No I have a learning disability dyslexia and chronic migraines. And I have been fully diagnosed and registered dyslexia. With dyslexia there are 7 levels u can be put into (depending on Ur score) 1 been well above average so basically, u may need some help but not much and 7 been that you basically need a lot of support with everything, I am in level 6 so I need a lot of help, with reading, spelling, understanding text and memory issues.

No I do not no where to put fully stops, I put capitals were they are not supposed to be, when I write or read, I forgot what I just wrote or read so have to have it reread multiple times and I still forget. I do not no the difference between that, there, their, than etc and what were where etc so I just hope for the best when using them. I have very bad short term memory issues. And now my doctor referred me to have a ADHD assessment done. It is a every struggle but for me it very annoying because I just do things people who do not have dyslexia know the struggles dyslexic people have to go through everyday

Yes I was not good at school, I was basically in the special needs class but this was in the 90s so learning disability was not well understood. But now I am at university but people hear this and think, well she can not be dyslexic because she at uni but do not realise, I have special programmes on my laptop that reads and writes for me and I have a skill tutor who makes sure I understand the basics but it still very difficult to do the work, I struggle a lot especially because I lose concentration a lot and fidget all the time. Well I have my mum help me fill in mine ADHD, I just hope I do not have to wait long to get seen. I no for kids there is a like a 2 year waiting list but not sure about adults.

Special needs class was were all the kids who were bad kids, had learning difficulties or basically slow (has they used to put it) were. Me to, I can not sit still long, my legs are always moving and when I doing my assignments, it takes my hours just to do a few lines because I start messing around doing other things or looking at different stuff, I really try but I just can not help it. Yes definitely trying to retain information is the same for me, it basically impossible. And I am a criminology student so most of the work is on theories so not good. Yes I used to work as a cleaner as I thought it was the only jobs I could get because of me been dyslexic and now I no I may have ADHD. I hope I can get a job with the justice system even enough I am dyslexic and may have ADHD

Well for me, it was the fact my one of my nephews is dyslexic and the other is going to be assist for ADHD and autism soon so I thought I can get the confidence and show them, just because we have learning disability does not mean we can not follow our dreams and I have always wanted to work in the justice system but just thought I could not but hopefully I can. But to be fair people who have any disability, getting any jobs is a wonderful achievement because for me we always get put down because people think because we can just read or spell etc, so it means we can not do anything were we can, but we just do not get the opportunities like other people.

I just now waiting for PIP to sort out my mandatory reconsideration so I can appeal it, so I can relax a bit because I no tribunal appeal can take about 6mths so it will be middle of next year when I get a appeal date, but maybe I will no more about my ADHD assessment by the time I go.

Hi Jo, congratulations. I worked in TU skills for life for over 16 years and we managed to get a lot of people help for dyslexia. Quite a few when on to do degrees and one then went onto a master, others became Union Learning Reps. Most were failed by the education and thought of as stupid. In my experience most people with dyslexia are actually cleverer and develop incredible coping strategies to hide their dyslexia, which actually shows how much they have been failed by the education system. I didn't realise until I started working with learners how many variants of dyslexia there are and go from just changing the colour of fonts/backgrounds helping, to much more complex needs. However with the right advise and assessment, how many can be helped. There is not enough understanding of the issues by the public or those who could provide a better early diagnosis and prevent all the pain and embarrassment as well as the undermining of their abilities because the condition is not picked up soon enough.

It is great that you have the support which technology and uni support and I hope that you really enjoy your studies and do well in the degree. The degree is great but, in some ways more importantly, I know how much achieving the degree changes the persons life, their confidence and social interaction. Even those who don't want to do a degree but are diagnosed generally gain self-confidence and have a better quality of life. What I also found was that most people who were diagnosed and helped, wanted to share the experience and help others to be be able to follow their journey whilst knowing that each individual is different so others journeys may be different. It also changes how other people see you because of the qualification, it is just sad that they cannot always see it without that piece of paper.

The one thing that saddened me when I came to the end of the employment was that although ULRs have done so much to overcome carriers to learning as well as supporting people with dyslexia, dyscalculia and synesthesia, children are still leaving school without having any of those conditions diagnosed and just being labelled as stupid or a trouble maker. It needs to change and those in power need to realise that diagnosing those conditions early, changes children's lives and benefits society.

Thank you. I agree with what u are saying. It took me over 15 years to go back to education because of school and college was not great for me. But got to say I do not see much change, I think there is still a lot of people who see dyslexic people as stupid people. I have a wonderful skill tutor but the actual tutors on my course are not good, they do not help me much. Like my skill tutor say, the tutors make the classes for everyone who not dyslexia so basically all my class, they do not make it for me, the way I learn and take in information is totally different from everyone who is not dyslexic and my brain can not learn like everyone else so i have to try to make it work for me, so i can at least give it a go and do the assessment best way i can. The one thing I find extremely difficult is presentations, because I can not remember the presentation, what I put down or want I have wrote on my cards especially if I stressed.

If that's 10 weeks since the assessment then the timescale is up to 12 weeks after the report was returned so you're still within the time frame.

First time claims can take anything up to about 6 months, sometimes longer. You will be contacted once the decision is made.

Not sure if anyone can help but I am still waiting for mandatory consideration to be done and I no there is no chance of them over turning the original decision so I will appeal to the tribunal court but was told today but someone else who had on PIP, if you appeal, u have to pay, is this true and if so how much is it. Because I never seen anyone else mention that they had to pay for appeal. So a bit confused.

Thank you Poppy, I thought so but just wanted to check. I may still be waiting for my mandatory reconsideration to come back but I been getting the tribunal appeal ready so I can send it straight in as soon as I get MR back.
