Help with carers allowance

Hi hope someone could shed some light on this.
My wife has claimed pip daily living allowance at the lower rate for 2 years now I have just been told I can claim carers allowance for her I tick all the required questions on the application form and my only income is £500 per month from a private pension my age is 59 . I know I'm late in claiming and you can only get 3 months backdated so I accept that's my fault . My question is will they accept my late claim I'm not looking for backdated money just from when I made the claim
Am I too late?
Will they dismiss the claim as I'm late?
Any advice would be helpful
Thanks in advance
Date of claim 11 October 2024

Thanks vikki66
My wife claims no other benefits and only has a small £320 per month private pension we do have some savings that we dip into per month for living costs , I have also money in another pension for when I reach retirement age.
Another question you may be able to help with, will I be required to attend an interview with anyone or is it straight forward
Sorry if these questions sound irrelevant but I have never claimed anything and it seems straight forward so that makes me think is there more to it than meet's the eye.
However the extra money would be a lifesaver to us for a while
Again thanks in advance

Thanks for your swift response I will post again when I get an outcome one way or another on the CA claim although by what I'm hearing this could be quite some time however it's took me over two years to claim a few more months is tolerable.lwill also look into income maximisation as you mentioned.
Ps Great service you provide especially for people new to these things so once again many thanks

Hey @Colnufc, welcome to the community 😊 it seems like you questions were answered but if you do have anymore please do ask away! I moved this discussion into our benefits section but if you like check out our other categories for any other topics you might have questions for.

There's no interview you need to attend when claiming Carers allowance. There shouldn't be any issues with it being backdated for 3 months, providing you qualified at that time. Do be aware that carers allowance is also a taxable benefit but based on the information you gave here you wouldn't pay any tax anyway due to your income being too low.

Well thanks to all for all the great information from everyone over the course of the day upon receiving the information it would look likely I would get it but not banking on it until I get a decision in black and white but regarding the tick box form I meet all the criteria, Just wished I had known about it 2 years ago but better than never knowing at all.
Thanks once again will post in future if I get it
