Seeking Advice for Housing Move Due to Health Needs In London
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out to share my situation and see if anyone has had a similar experience or can offer advice. Last year, I was homeless and ended up in a hostel, where I received help with a medical form due to several health conditions, including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, autism, and bipolar disorder.
I was recently offered a first-floor flat, but I felt I had no choice but to accept it to avoid becoming intentionally homeless. Unfortunately, my health conditions weren’t considered during the process. I’m currently housebound and struggle to navigate the stairs to the main entrance, which has led to several falls and balance issues. The flat has a bath that I can’t use safely, and I’m not allowed any adaptations, like a handrail.
The excessive noise from the main road has been particularly challenging for my autism, making it hard to concentrate and causing increased anxiety. My autism also affects my ability to process sensory information, leading to overwhelming feelings in loud environments. Additionally, my fibromyalgia causes chronic pain and fatigue, which makes daily activities difficult, while my chronic fatigue leaves me exhausted, limiting my mobility and ability to engage with the world. My bipolar disorder adds another layer of complexity, affecting my mood stability and making it hard to cope with stress.
I’ve consulted a solicitor about a suitability review and have an occupational therapy appointment scheduled for the 30th. I’m hoping to request a move to a ground-floor property in a quiet residential area, as my mental and physical health have deteriorated since moving here.
Has anyone experienced a similar situation, or do you have suggestions on how I can advocate for a move? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
