Hi, my name is DannyS! Can I claim for a timing belt replacement on UC?
Hi guy's
Does anyone know if I can claim for a timing belt replacement on UC, as a self employed driver using my own vehicle?

Hi,
You can't claim expenses for specific repairs or maintenance on the vehicle.
You should be claiming a fixed rate based on mileage instead. That is designed to cover all vehicle related costs.

Thanks very much for your response.

Hi @DannyS, welcome to the community.
Just to be clear - when you say you're a self employed driver, is driving part of your work? Sorry if I've misunderstood!
You could potentially claim for Budgeting Loan through Universal Credit which you'd then have to pay back gradually, but I'm not sure if they'd cover something relating to your car. It's always worth asking them though if it's relating to the work that you do.
You might like to have a look at the Turn2Us grant search too. There could be something there to help you pay for your belt replacement:
Hopefully some of our members might have been through similar and can offer some more advice. I hope you can get it sorted soon!
