I don't like them. They set off my startle reflex. Every year is like WW3.

Fireworks go off close to our home too, I think people's back gardens. Our dog is terrified of them, she is an anxious girl in general and once she hears a firework she starts shaking, panting and it takes her hours to settle back down even once they have finished. We tend to shut the curtains early and make sure the TV is up loud and I will play the classical FM for dogs on my phone and just go where ever my girl wants to go in the house. She will be 13 soon and so it does worry me more each year with her getting older too.
I hope FiFi avoids hearing any this year. I didn't know they had silent ones in Italy!

We had fireworks last night near me. They all seem to bang now.

I really wish that they could be banned - they make too much noise and scared our (now deceased) cats - we used to have to ensure that the cats were safely locked indoors before it got dark !
I don't mind "out of town" professionally run firework displays with bonfires etc - but not the back garden types - there are always injuries - and they just make noise !
They also start a week before 5th and continue until a week after
They could limit them by law to the 5th - with huge fines for law breakers !

I agree @Wibbles professionally run fireworks displays nothing else.

As a pet owner with PTSD, I really hate fireworks. I understand they can be fun for families, but I'm also in on the side of "Professionally run displays only" and preferably all done on one evening instead of spreading them out.

i myself am not for or against it but if it was confined to organised events only you would have to pay a lot more for entry for a family than you would doing it yourself then you have to get there all the extra parking this is a debate thats been going for some 400 years just a thought who used to enjoy it as a youngster and never thought about the cats or dogs being on the farms we never had them but could see them in the sky

Personally I love fireworks and couldn't even contemplate silent ones as for me the noise is part of the spectacle. Yet I thoroughly understand they unnerve a lot of people, and not just the elderly, as well as animals. I also agree fireworks should be on sale only to professionals operating controlled displays and should be confined to Nov 5th only. So although I personally like them, I think a tightening of the rules and regulations surrounding them is something to be encouraged. There are a lot of elderly people on my estate (I expect I am classed as one of them) plus a large sheltered accommodation block, and I know they do worry a lot of people.

I don't mind fireworks & people love them, I wouldn't want to see a total ban. More organised events would be better, but still with the noise, as that is part of them & it is one of our very long standing traditions. They shouldn't be able to sell the huge, loud ones unless they are to bona fide display organisers & they should be licensed.
Luckily, I've always managed to keep my pets calm through them & some have actually come outside with me when I could watch a display from the garden. I have a new pup now & she doesn't like motorcycles or sirens, but she is now more calm with them already. I was sat on the loo last week, she was at my feet (she doesn't leave me even there!) & one huge firework went off about 50metres from my lounge window, we both jumped & she ran out of the bathroom & stood like a pointer & then looked back at me, thankfully, she didn't shake or cry, so I'm hoping when we're surrounded, as we will be from this evening & over the next couple of weeks, she will manage okay. If not, I especially bought her a hat that keeps the ears down to dull the noise, will hope that'll work.

Yes I have a dog who follows me everywhere yes I cut the foot of a sock once and put on fifi head covering ears she wasn't happy your so lucky that your dogs calm my pixie us but i got her when she was 5 and I think they left her in the garden me personally I can't stand them guy fawkes had the right idea

i think if guy fawkes had succeeded he would of made a lot more noise than a few fireworks it does seem strange to celebrate his failed attempt but hey ho someone makes money out of it

They scare me and my pets. I’d be happier if they were limited to organised events and certain dates only and the sound level was reduced. I understand that some people enjoy them so wouldn’t want to see them banned completely but a little more thought towards pets, wildlife, scared people would be great

a quick well slow in my case look at noise levels and fireworks are limited to 120dba at an approved distance for general use that makes it on par with ambulance and police sirens a thunder clap and a rock concert or a chainsaw plus many other i would assume
