High blood pressure, would I get LCWRA?
Hi there!
I am wondering if anyone knows if I would be likely to get LCWRA with my situation :
I get high blood pressure when in a social setting around people, this has been observed in my GP surgery more than once.
I have been given a blood pressure monitor to use at home for 7 days and as expected my blood pressure when at home is fine. It’s just when I’m around people. I have anxiety/depression issues for which I take medication.
A big reason for feeling so anxious around people (but not limited to) is because I stutter - the fear of stuttering and this evidently increases my blood pressure.
Looking at the descriptors I think I may be able to claim for :
‘Engagement in social contact is always impossible due to difficulty relating to others or significant distress experienced by the individual - 15 points’
Would my blood pressure rising in social situations be classed as significant distress? As it could lead to heart problem/heart attack.
I also believe I may meet the threshold for significant harm to myself or others :
‘A claimant can be treated as having limited capability for work-related activity (LCWRA) if, by reason of their health condition or disability, there would be a substantial risk to the health of the claimant or others were the claimant found not to have LCWRA.’
Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance

Heya @do1987 I don't think any of us would be able to say if you'd get LCWRA for high blood pressure, as that'd very much depend on any medical evidence and also how much of a risk a heart attack would be.

I have 19 conditions and only 3 are treatable one of those 3 is high BP I'm on a daily dose of both bisoprolol and amlodipine.
before the treatment my blood pressure wss high enough to be fatal coming in regularly at as high as 212/130 it's now always within a healthy or only slightly raised range.
the DWP being the DWP will likely argue that it's treatable and short term, but I hope everything works out for you.

Thank you @Nightcity, same to you.
I am hoping the fact that it’s fine at home and goes over the limit when I have social contact goes in my favour.
I currently work from home running an online business as I was granted a start-up period by UC.
But if I’m not earning a certain amount by April I will have to enter the general workforce as it stands and that fills me with anxiety.1 -
What stands out to me here is "it could lead to a heart attack/heart problems." That would only help you if you had proof that this has actually happened. Not doing something because it "could" happen is never helpful.

ok thanks @poppy123456
What I never mentioned in my original post because I didn’t want it to be too long, I was getting regular chest pains up until a couple of months ago. But also numbness in 2 of my fingers on my left hand along with a shortness of breath. On several occasions I had 999 typed out on my phone but never went through with it.
It was probably nothing, it was probably because of my weight. I’ve lost 21kg since then and it hasn’t really happened recently.I’m hoping next time I see my GP I can arrange to get tested for this though.
