Wheelchair and kitchen and home accessibility
occupational health, adult services. Hi all Im looking for someone advice please. I’m losing The feeling in my legs because of spine conditions. And need to start using a wheelchair. I can stand up no more than 10 minutes before I need to sit down again. What it is I’ve had a home visit to see about doing the doors and locking at my kitchen it’s very small size and not enough room for the wheelchair to move around safely. it will need to be extended has plenty room to do so. I’ve had a call today from the ot Saying that they will do the doors but not the kitchen because I can stand up. The waiting time is long over a year and I’m worried about how I will be going forward. Therex just no room to use my wheelchair in there like it is. I’m also waiting for a NHS wheelchair assessment. I appreciate any advice thank you

Have you tried a perching stool in the kitchen?
Easy to obtain and might help as a temporary measure.
If you can't get your current home adapted, have you thought of moving to somewhere more suitable?

thank you for your reply.
I’m trying to find out how people manage with the OT if they have been in the same situation or similar.
Im loosing the feeling in my legs and I’ve got to use a wheelchair.
because I can stand up for a little bit no more than 10 minutes at the moment they are saying that they are not going to do the kitchen the wheelchair will not go in the there’s no room for it after the door to go in there.I own my house and is paid for I’m happy with it. So I’m definitely not going to move anywhere.

My experience is sitting on a skateboard with a box bolted on top. Homemade.
