Managed Migration

Hi everyone, We've just migrated over from ESA Contributions with Income Related top up to UC, We found the process pretty straightforward and with us continuing to receive ESA Contributions fortnightly it really help with there been a 6 week wait, Before we changed over we were recieving full council tax benefit and on Saturday we received a revised council tax bill saying they want £143.20 a month, Our earning haven't gone up and just the ESA and the wife's carers allowance are deducted from the UC monthly before we are paid, Has anyone else who's been thru the migration had the same issue with the Council Tax becoming chargeable, Thanks James

Have you received your first UC payment yet? If not then your CTR will be recalculated based on that. Your local Authority will likely ask to see your first UC statement. Other than that I can't give any other advice because all local Authorities have their own rules for CTR for working age people.

If you think it's wrong you'll need to contact them.

Thanks for getting back to me Poppy, Yes we've received our 1st UC payment, I've done the Gov.uk, Turn2u and Citizens Advice benefits calculator and all 3 say the same it with my council tax reduction my Bill for the year should be £87 but they've sent out asking for £650, I'm in the process of writing an appeal as something gone wrong somewhere, I was just wondering whether anyone else had the same issue

Yes I have seen a few instances, where CTR is lower under UC than legacy benefits.

As each local authority sets their own rules for CTR it's difficult to advise further.
