Selling property
hello I need a bit of help/advice I’m in receipt of esa which I know is means tested,I’m in the process of selling my property and at present I can’t find anything within price range,so my dilemma is if I don’t find a property before I sell mine and have well over the savings limit will the dwp just stop my esa or would I get a bit of time to find a property or would I have to apply for u/c? The money I get from my sale I’ll be looking for something like for like price wise so I wouldn’t be over the savings limit it’s just it could take a couple of months after my sale goes through. But I would end up having to rent until I find a property as I would need an address for dwp.
Many thanks.

There is usually a 6 month disregard in those circumstances, and if it takes longer you can ask for that to be extended, and a Decision Maker would look at the request.
I've nothing to add to the excellent advice given to you last year by calcotti

hello Kimmy87 thanks for you’re quick response. So within the 6 month disregard will my esa still be paid as normal? When I moved last time I informed the dwp and was asked to provide my latest bank statement which I did I was well under the limit so nothing more was asked of me. So as above I will still inform the dwp will they just as for relavent bank statements?
also what if I have no fixed address until I find a new property will that affect anything.it could be possible I could be sofa surfing. Thanks.0
