PIP success - don’t give up
Hello All
I wanted to give you all a success story.
My adult son applied for PIP 15 months ago . He is diagnosed Autistic and with ADHD. Not diagnosed as a child only in his late twenties.
he struggles with common traits such as..Money management, sensory overload in the shower, communicating with others and being labelled rude, sharp etc.
he was awarded zero points - right from the beginning through mandatory reconsideration and appeal.
I read somewhere that another person upon rejection of mandatory reconsideration approached citizens advice to assist. So I did this with him. It’s a long slog but they assisted with mandatory reconsideration. This was our magic point. Without us approaching citizens advice at this stage - law centre would not have picked it up later on. So of course declined again. We said fine- taking you to tribunal. Told citizens advice who passed the case then to Law Centre. Waited over a year for a tribunal court date. Called Law centre when we got a face to face tribunal date and they were AMAZING. They went through every point 3 hrs and honestly said, I can argue that point but not that one etc. went to court in person with us. DWP were overturned the same day and PIP awarded and backdated. DWP want you to drop it, give up. Keep fighting if you believe you deserve this. Law Centre were free and we could never have got that decision without their expert advice and presentation in court.
my son works part time and drives. He burns out ‘with people’ after 16 hrs per week and ends up losing jobs. So this award allows him to stay working and enjoy an independent fruitful life .

in addition. I am really private. My previous posts say I have a daughter but that was for anonymity. I wanted to give you all hope- that’s all.

Hi @Helen800, great to hear your son's case won at tribunal. It's always frustrating to hear that people have to fight all the way to tribunal, but I'm glad he finally got the result he needed. I bet that's a weight off both your minds!
Thanks for sharing your story, many people find it helpful to read these so we really appreciate you taking the time to share 😊

Oh that is such good news @Helen800 and a story we often hear, the DWP really do seem like they're trying to starve people out at times. I'm really happy for your son. 😁
