Claiming carers allowence, working part time but make to sell at home how does it work?

Hi there i hope someone can help and hope this is the right place to ask this as i did talk to citizens advice online but all they kept doing was giving lings to carers allowance info which did not answer my questions.
right now i work 25hr per week on minimum wage but also i am registered as a sole trader with the government because i make to sell on ebay. i do not make massive amounts, last year taking away the £1k traders allowance from my sales i ended up having to pay about £165 tax which i have put into my gov account ready to be taken come january.
so far from april this year upto now i have only made £700 but after charismas for a few month sales drop to not selling anything for week at a time so i may not even get to the £1k allowance this time so may not have tax to pay.
I am saying all this as my mum has fibromyalgia as well as other things and is on pip and she is needing more help where i will have to be a carer so i know come april next year people can earn upto £196 per week and still claim carers allowance so going by what minimum wage will be next april i could work 16 hrs and i am at 195.36 per week so should be ok…..
but i totally forgot i had to factor in being the sole trader and selling on ebay.
does anyone know how i would work out how much i would earn if i go over the carers working limit with a part time job but also the making to sell on ebay.
i tried but i have no idea how the government sees the money i earn off ebay as its not a weekly wage its just selling when i sell and not selling when i dont.
do i say over estimate what i would earn doing that in a year and divide it by 52 weeks giving me a estimate weekly amount i may make on ebay and then alter the part time hours to compensate so i do not go over?
I am really stupid with all this stuff and i did even ask on the gov website forum but it was like they had no idea when advisors replied to me.
i still want to make to sell crafts on ebay as its a hobby too

Hi @mark25810 sorry you've not had a response to this post yet. Have you managed to get clarity in the meantime?
Best wishes,

Hi, oh no no help even from HMRC

I'm not too sure whether your situation might be similar to mine - would your trading activities be viewed as running a business? And your employment status for trading would be self employed?
So - normally they request to see actual accounts made up. And - yes - they do take your actual profit and divvy up by 52.
This is how they work out the Scottish Carers allowance; i should think yours will be the same

If your mum is claiming any other benefits do they include the Severe Disability Premium? If so and you claim carers allowance the SDP would end.
As your income from PAYE would be just a small amount under the maximum earnings limit for carers allowance then any other earnings over that would mean no entitlement to carers allowance.

She gets full pip, i was told she would not lose money if someone claimed carers allowance unless she was on other benefits too

Does she claim any other benefits, if so which ones?

That is correct because PIP doesn't have a Severe Disability Premium.

No other benefits just full pip with that motobility part also.

Then it won’t affect it. The advice in my first comment with your earnings still applies.

Yes i currently work part time 25 hrs as a cleaner but make to sell on ebay i am classed and registered as a sole trader for doing that
While i dont earn much...for instance april 23 to 24 period i had to pay hmrc 165 tax for things i sold on ebay.
Its more a hobby as i like crafting but obviously its a small business too.
Its hard working things out as i will be cutting my normal work hrs down under the new carers allowance threshold so i can be home and look after my mum as right now me and dad juggle it between jobs....i work in afternoon till 9pm he gets home 30 mins before i set off for work.
But because i want to keep selling on ebay as i like making things its hard to know how many hrs i need to cut on main job so i do not go over carers threshold when i sell things

Its a hard situation because i can not afford to earn really less than what i do now but carers allowance is not alot at all.
Right now the part time work i get 1.2k after tax and national insurance, the eBay money is not alot but a bit extra as deoends when you sell things but it just gies towards buying extra bits etc really.
But i have a car lease need to pay thats 320 a month insurance is 70 a month as well as other bills etc and board.
No matter how i try work things out ill be alot worse off as need to cut my hrs down to say 12 a week it make sure im under limit enough for possible ebay sales....or stop ebay and up the work hrs more
But then thats my only hobby and thing i like doing gone.
Terrible situation

If your monthly earnings are £1,200 per month after deductions then that’s way above what the maximum earnings limit will be for carers allowance from April 2025.
With the new weekly earnings limit being £196 that would make the monthly earnings limit £849.

Oh i know thats why i said i will have to cut my hours at my part time job and why i was needing to work out how much to cut it down buy to try take into account possible esrnings from ebay sales too

But financially if i cut my hours down enough to also take into consideration ebay sales ill be losing too much money each month being my mums carer....which if i had not got bills and ither things would not be as bad but i do
So not sure i can afford to be her carer :/
