i filled out UC50 and sent it back in the addressed envelope at least 8 weeks ago my fit note was registered to DWP. on 08/08/24 and have been updating them since then. according to web site with UC50 questions and points for answers i scored over 15 points . i am waiting for a hip operation and tried to go to work on 2 occasions but was told i was not up to the job anymore. i am on strong pain killers and naproxen just to be able to walk a short distance. as yet i have heard nothing back from DWP. Does anyone know if I should have heard something by now. People have told me to claim PIP but web site says this takes 20 weeks at least. i would be grateful for any feed back. Kind Regards.

The sooner you start a claim for PIP, the sooner you will get a result.

Wait times following a UC50 being returned vary so we aren't able to answer that here.

You could get in touch with the assessment provider and ask directly:

Hi @Stephen111, welcome to the community 😊 I hope you're doing okay today. My mother in law had to have hip operations done and I know how much pain her hips were causing her before the operation. I will say, after the operation she was far, far better. Hopefully your operation happens sooner rather than later.

The wait times for a Work Capability Assessment (WCA) can vary quite a bit depending on a few different factors. I've heard people having it within 3 months and some waiting a year. On average though a few to several months is fairly normal. You could ask the health assessment provider for your area as Kimmy87 has linked in their reply. If they have no information then I would be contacting your work coach via your journal about what is happening.

For PIP I also recommend applying as soon as possible. PIP can take 3-4 months to be assessed and a decision made, but the money is backdated to the date you applied. So the earlier you get the application in the better if you are eligible for an award.

We have advice sections that cover both the WCA and PIP, please do check them out and read them if you'd like to know more. They can also have links to receive support with applying too.
