This seemed obvious as well, I am not quite sure how this one though fits in the ICD if UK DSM if US. I have heard this too many times now though.

Autism I have heard and read too many times autistic people often take things seriously/litreally when they hear it. So, the possibility of reading something and questioning yourself and then the repetition of the thinking on top. I myself am got by the things some people tell and I never it was a joke, easy to get like that lol. This can be destabilising for some autistics no matter where you are with this condition and eject negativity. Perhaps if you this type just take care of yourself with what you read especially if feeling a bit more vulnerable that day.

but for some people there seems to be a period of adjustment as well.

MsR, of course there's a period of adjustment for late-diagnosed people! It's like being told you were adopted or something else profound you didn't know about yourself. It is extremely shocking and distressing.

There is no cure or medication for autism and in any case, we don't need to be 'fixed'.

C I had no knowledge of autism until my daughter mentioned it. Once I was able to process how my medical, psychiatric, education and relationship history might be linked to this condition (this disorder), the need for proof and validation took over my life but it had to done.

I totally understand why you need it. For me, I knew it too but above all else, I had to be believed in order to believe in myself.

WhatThe I agree with your post above but will say this about the medication. Medication wise it is only Risperdone and Abilify that have tested on autistic people. I have been prescribed Risperdone to try and manage the repetition. Some medications can help some people manage some symptoms. I didn't say cure, but manage medication wise. My repetition can get sometimes high and Risperdone has helped me with it in the past. Now I am prescribed Serqouel for repetion and sometimes it can be like it can help get over a blip you have with it. I am trying to come of it and now.

Risperdone and Abilify I think from reading may help them with behaviour as well.
