Deleting accounts

The online community team thought it would be useful to explain how account deletions work and answer any questions you may have.

  • If you would like your account to be deleted, please send an email to community@scope.org.uk. We will reply as soon as we can, but this can sometimes be 3 to 5 working days. The reply will ask your reasons for leaving and we may need to ask you to clarify your username to ensure the correct account is deleted.
  • Account deletions are permanent and all content and badges are also deleted. For this reason, we like to give members time to reconsider as sometimes decisions can be made in the heat of the moment.
  • Account deletions must be carried out by the online community team due to platform restrictions.

We never want to see our members leave the community and we hope that we can provide a welcoming space for everyone. If you feel there is any tension or you are upset by something you have seen, please use the report function. We will try our best to address the situation and discuss the best way forward as a team. Your feedback is invaluable to us.

If you have any questions or comments let us know 😊

I personally don't think that all comments should be deleted along with them, there's a lot of valuable content, especially if someone has been part of the community for some time. It seems a shame to just delete it all.

Unfortunately @Autism_at_40 it's not something we have much control over. The host platform doesn't give us a lot of wiggle room with account deletions.

I like the fact that Scope allows us to edit or delete our own comments (during office hours).

    That's a bit poop…

@WhatThe - I agree with that… it's just that sometimes there are posts from people that have been valuable additions, it's just a shame that everything is automatically deleted.

It is a loss. Some members just stop posting and keep a dormant account but others ask for theirs to be deleted.

There have been a few wobbles on the forum recently..

Albus, some info here about how to re-join Scope's online forum would be great too!

Being able to unsubscribe from a thread should be a basic function of this forum. It's easier to de-escalate a situation by unsubscribing from the thread so you don't get reminders. I have no idea why that isn't implemented. It would help retain members as well.

surly if someone asks for there account to be deleted its there choice alone they can always join again if they feel the need i should imagine re joining would be the same as the first time unless you were banned and then you would try to start as a new user people come and go for whatever reason same as in life

This is a limitation of the forum software unfortunately. I would also like to unsubscribe from some of the 'game' threads where I only made one or two posts years ago and still get regular notifications for them.

Indeed, the forum software could really do with being replaced with something more flexible, they are better options out there.

OverlyAnxious, I may have the answer..

Go to Categories and uncheck boxes under Discussion Category

I actually asked for my account to be deleted a couple of times, ages ago now but it never happened.

    I'm still here 👀

It's all good though im happy I'm still here tbh.

Lots of great info and decent people.

    Good old scope!

Thanks for this though I can't see any boxes for individual threads? Could you post a screenshot in case I'm looking at the wrong page?

I'm sorry I can't (still using a brick phone). I found checked boxes under Categories and that did the trick for me..

No problem, thanks anyway. I guess it may be different on a phone to a laptop too. There aren't any boxes ticked under categories on mine. And there's nothing at all in 'manage followed content'.

Well it's very unfortunate that you're stuck with me today @WhatThe sorry. 😆

And unfortunately, as said, when you ask for your account to be deleted, it's very final, no information can be grabbed back. So the only way to rejoin is to just sign up for a new account…as someone did last night. 😊

You could try Profile, notification preferences. Then click on manage followed content.

You will then see the option to unfollow a category. You are likely following the games den.

Thanks for trying. Though there isn't anything in my 'followed content'.
