Hi there,

I was refused PIP back in 2017 however I now receive PIP due to my diagnosis now being accepted by them.

I was told I could appeal my original refusal and have it backdated to the original application date to the date I have now been awarded. Does anyone know if this is true, is there any point in trying?

My diagnoses haven't changed since my first time applying in 2017, my issue is they now accept several of my diagnoses in which I would of been accepted for receive PIP back in 2017. Shall I fight for it?

You have 13 months to appeal a decision, so I'm afraid you are out of time.

I was informed by another department within DWP that thousands of people we wrongly refused PIP and because of that they will be contacting everyone and fighting for their original application.

I've seen someone post that they've just managed to win their appeal and it's been backdated 10 years. By that I'm guessing the 13 months limit doesn't apply?

There have been some awards looked at again by DWP, due to court ordered criteria changes.

    These awards were backdated.

They only contact those who might be eligible.

For cases outside that remit, the 13 month time limit does still apply.

As it can be a complex issue you could consult local welfare rights
