Today marks St Andrews Day, which is celebrated by Scottish people on 30th November every year. St Andrew became the official patron saint of Scotland in 1320. According to Christianity, he was one of the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ.

The day is generally celebrated with Scottish culture, traditional food, clothing, dancing and music. Who celebrates St Andrews Day and do you have any traditions?

Traditional Scottish food and drink play a big part on St Andrew’s Day. These are some of the popular choices, which you may or may not of heard of!

Cullen skink - which is a type of fish soup - has anyone tried this or even heard of this?

And one your probably more familiar with, is Scotland’s famous national dish, haggis, neeps (turnip) and tatties (potato). The food is often enjoyed with a dram of Whiskey or rum.

I am Scottish, with a Scottish heritage, despite living in England most of my life. I don’t celebrate St Andrews day, but I do love haggis, neeps and tatties. My Mum used to make the best haggis pie and whiskey sauce.

Despite what people think about haggis, it's just a type of savoury pudding that combines meat, oatmeal, onions, salt and spices. Haggis was traditionally cooked in a sheep's stomach, apparently a historic way of preserving meat, but nowadays it is sold and cooked in a synthetic sausage casing. Anyone keen to try?

I'm English, but i have Scottish heritage.

I haven't made any plans, but i might watch something Scottish. Either a Sean Connery Bond film, or i might watch a few episodes of Still Game.

I've never tried Haggis but wouldn't be opposed to giving it a try.

Happy St Andrews Day to anyone celebrating!

Happy SAD to you Annie for yesterday! 😉

On my travels yesterday I happened upon a house clearance and helped myself to some lovely porcelain bowls and two Scottish books, one entitled Och Wheesht and Get Oan Wae It. Marvellous!

"You'll have had yer tea.." Oh yes, I'd be invited to a friend's house for tea but unable to reciprocate - embarrassing or what?

"Whit's fur ye'll no go by ye!" My mum said this to me often. Most things went straight by me but never mind 😅
