Vulnerable person
Hi to everyone,
Please, could someone kindly write to me what kind of person is classified as vulnerable, what proves that a person is perceived as vulnerable , does the disability need to be registered somewhere? If i perceive myself as disabled person should i register somewhere? Does PIP play a significant role here and is confirmation of disability? Is there registration of disabled people in the UK ?
Thank you
Kind regards

A vulnerable adult is typically defined as someone aged 18 or older who, due to a mental or physical disability, age, or illness, is unable to care for themselves or protect themselves from harm or exploitation. If you consider yourself to be disabled, there is no requirement to register anywhere specifically. This definition covers a range of circumstances.
However, if you need support or services, you should contact your local council's adult social services department for an assessment of your needs. It is important to note that there is no central registry for disabled people in the UK.

@MW123 Your advice is always so sound, so thanks.
@Agnia I can't answer your question in an authoritative or definitive type of way, because it seems to be a process that you go through where other people (healthcare professionals/local council workers) decide for you. I was declared severely disabled in 2004. I did not ask for this, government officials decided for me. Also, my disability then was invisible and couldn't be diagnosed, but being declared disabled is a legal term and not a diagnosis. Since then, without me asking, I have been considered to be vulnerable by my council, doctor, utility companies etc. So I think it is just a process you go through where people who are dealing with your health and housing decide that you are vulnerable. I don't think you have to ask or register in any type of way. It seems to be automatic. Yet as MW123 pointed out you should contact your local council's Adult Social Services.

I would first ask why you want to be seen as vulnerable or disabled.
If you need a bus pass for example, I think that's dependant on where you live. I think receiving PIP mobility is a requirement for some of them. I don't know about the blue badge.
I am classed as vulnerable and when the term was first used I found it very insulting. However the authorities that decided on it talked to me about it first and I do recall signing the forms. However it did change my life as I was indirectly asked to leave the voluntary job I had because now they were going to be responsible for me.
I had actually forgotten about label until this until thread popped up.
