PIP car tax 50% reduction
Our car is in my wifes name and she uses it to go to work etc. I am a named driver. I get standard mobility. Can somebody confirm if I claim the 50% she cannot use it for her own use anymore? The DVLA states that the 100% discount for enhanced mobility the car can only be used by or for the claimant BUT does not state the same for the 50% reduction. I asked DVLA and they just quoted the 100% discount rule and ignored my question regarding the 50% rules (if any)!

Hi @drongo22 sorry you've not had a response to this yet. That was very helpful of DVLA 😅… Did you make any progress with it since writing this? I've found the below eligibility online so from what you've said, it looks like you'll like be able to. I've also added a link to the website I sourced this from, which has the "how to claim" details if needed - Vehicle Tax 50% reduction - Disabled Motoring UK
To claim the 50% reduction the vehicle must be :- Registered in the disabled person’s name or their nominated driver’s name.
You can apply for the 50% reduction if you get the:
- Standard Rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- ADP standard rate mobility component
Best wishes,
