is your catheter permanent or just short term. I remember just when Covid had started. I have a problem with uti ‘s. I needed a catheter for one day only. Then was told I would have to keep it for a week. Not because I medically needed it. But because of capacity in the urology sept because of Covid and that also some nurses aren’t trained in removing them.
Tgen when the week was up I rung urology to go and have it removed. So this very cocky nurse said to me there’s no reason why you can’t keep it for 12 weeks. Even though she knew I didn’t need it and that I was allergic to the rubber. I was fuming but damned if I was gonna keep something inside me that I didn’t medically need.
So I rung my GP in a very stressed anxious state and told her what they was saying. She wrote me a letter to go to a special ward in StJames tgat deal with these sort of emergency situations. At tge end of the day it wasn’t tge right of that nurse to make that decision. A decision which could have impacted my condition even more.0 -
