My Dad Put In A Form How he has new conditions that as worsened is health so is on top of the existing conditions. There have said over the phone that his standard rate as stopped and he will get a letter in the post explaining why. His next payment is a reduced amount of what he normally gets. We don't get this why would there close his claim down if his health as worsened. Have there just assessed him basing on the new conditions even though is old conditions are ongoing. There not asking for him to repay any money back so it makes no sense.

When you report a worsening of condition they review your whole claim. You should only report changes if it possible to score more points needed for a higher award. A worsening of condition doesn’t automatically entitle you to more points.

Once a decision is made yes the award can either stop completely, be decreased, increased or remain the same.

When he filled out the form did he treat it as a new claim and put down all of his conditions and how they affect him?

For the next stage he can request the Mandatory Reconsideration. He should put this is writing stating where and why he thinks he should have scored those points. Please do not ring to request this. A decision can take up to 15 weeks.

Once the MR decision has been made if he’s not happy he can proceed to Tribunal.

So we thought cos there have already awarded him standard and is conditions for them have no changed that he would automatically still get standard. Since he got standard his mobility has changed allot due to heart failure etc but even if did not give him any more points he still has his original conditions so we thought he would still have his standard allowance . We don't understand why there have stopped his whole claim scoring no points it makes no sense.

When you report changes or have a review started by PIP any new decision overrules the current one. No one is automatically entitled to PIP unless you have 12 months or less left to live.

There's always a risk when reporting changes.

    Hi @pnewby38

This sounds like an incredibly frustrating situation. Unfortunately, this can happen when reporting new changes even if the original reasons for receiving PIP is the same or have got worse.

This is some information on Challenging a PIP decision by mandatory reconsideration which is the next step.

Hope this was helpful, please reach out if you have more questions or would like further support.

Hes in heart failure it's just so frustrating. We made it clear that the points he was awarded in the first place should still stand as this is to report his condition worsening. He's gone from qualifying for just the standard rate too now scoring 0 points how can that be if his conditions have worsened it makes no sense.

It was a form which specifically said can you please tell us about any changes in your health since X date so that's all we included we didn't include what he was already getting pip for under the standard rate because the form did not ask for that.

Ah I see @pnewby38, thank you for explaining. It sounds like a very stressful situation, I hope you and your dad are okay. The forms can definitely be sneaky like that, are you going to challenge the decision?

The review form asks you about all of your health conditions. It also asks you to tell them how you manage that activity now and whether there’s been any changes.

When filling out forms like this you should always treat them as a new claim.

Do you think there stopped his claim because he choose a telephone assessment rather than a face to face assessment. He chose that option because it was an option and because he his mobility means he's pretty much house bound.

Not everyone can physically attend these assessments in person.

Most assessments are by telephone so I will say no, that wouldn’t be the reason.
