Can they request appointee's bank statements

Hi. I'm new to this Forum.

I have an 18 year old daughter who has Down Syndrome and autism, and I am the appointee for her UC and PIP. I have just had a call from DWP re: a UC review. I have to provide 4 months bank statements. But my daughter's UC is paid into my account. So they are saying I have to send my bank statements to them. I explained that it is my bank account and as I am not claiming UC I'm not sure what they will achieve from this. It feels very intrusive

I'm now in the process of switching payment of UC into my daughter's bank account but in the meantime does anyone have experience of this ie having to share their statements when they're not the claimant?

It is correct that it's your bank statements you need to send them because her money goes into your bank account. There's been some members that are in the same situation but none of them have returned with any updates.

It is but UC is a means tested benefit so they are within their rights to request the statements.

It is means tested but I'm not the claimant so my means are irrelevant.

Yes,it does seen intrusive and irrelevant, go to Citizens Advice and check with one of their benefits specialists..won't hurt and may bring clarity at least.

In this situation there isn't anything to get clarity about because they are within their rights to request the statements. I'm an appointee for my daughter myself and her money is paid into my bank account so I'm not saying that it's right they do this but it is what it is.

Yes,and with all due respect,you said "that's the way it is",with my issue as a carer and my partner having lost her DLA and reclaiming pip..thus I would have to attend work focused interview's…however on investigation,U.C and the Jobcentre were and still are quite happy to have an occasional phone interview,and keep things appropriately care centred.

It's never a bad thing to seek other opinions and the process itself can be usefull in all kinds of ways..while there is loads of nonsense in all kinds of systems currently,there are also some incredibly dedicated,usefull,and human people working in systems..plus we need to be a part of the processes we interact with,not just passive observers.

This is just my take after 20 yrs of complimentary therapy,15 yrs of home care experience,and worked for MIND.
