esa support group to uc
hi ive just gone through migration to uc, i went with support worker to do id check and it all completed. my question is the lady said my first uc payment will be 19th december but today my esa was due and didnt go in bank, is this normal, im really confused as uc doesnt begin till next week. also will i have to apply for new style esa. does everyone who migrated from support group need to apply for the new style esa. any advice would be good, i thought i finally had this sorted but my stress levels are through the roof again. thanks

There are two types of ESA.
Income Related, this ends and is replaced by UC, after one final payment two weeks after applying for UC.
Contributions Based, this converts automatically to New Style ESA after you apply for UC.
You can be on either type, or both.
Have you had any correspondence from DWP mentioning NS ESA?

not had any contact from them, women at uc office said i wouldnt need to look for work or attend as ive migrated from support group. im so confused after thinking it was finally sorted

As you are four weeks into migration, I would have expected you to have heard something about NS ESA.
This suggests to me that you were on Income Related ESA only.
IR ESA stops two weeks after applying for UC, and your UC award will be the ESA replacement.
So everything so far is going as it should with your UC claim.
The UC office were correct, your ESA Support Group status carries over into UC and gives you the equivalent, LCWRA, automatically.

its all so confusing. i have a relative who migrated to uc due to changing his address, he was in support group also but was asked to also apply for new style esa so im so confused

As I advised the type of ESA you are on determines what happens during the migration to UC. Income Related, Contributions Based, or both.
IR, this ends and is replaced by UC, after one final payment two weeks after applying for UC.
CB, this converts automatically to New Style ESA after you apply for UC.
From what you've written, you were likely on IR and your relative was on both. So it's correct that different things have happened.
Support Group or WRAG is not relevant to your question about ESA.
It is the type of ESA in payment prior to migration that matters.

You have definitely misunderstood that because you don't apply for New style ESA when moving from ESA to UC. It just reverts to it if part of the ESA was contributions based, as Kimmy advised.
When you claimed UC there was an advance payment you could have applied for, did you apply? It needs to be repaid back and your future UC payments will be reduced over a period of 2 years until it's paid back.

Inform them of your migration, then they will probably ask for your first statement to work out your entitlement.
