Hi, my name is BaxtertheBadger72! If my partner loses PIP will that affect her ESA?
Hi All,
My partner is currently on IR ESA [Support Group] and in receipt of PIP [Enhanced Mobility and Standard Daily Living Component]. She has just had her PIP claim reviewed and is awaiting a decision from the DWP following a telephone assessment. Should the outcome result in her losing her PIP award how would this affect her ESA claim? I am her FT carer and in receipt of CA. Many thanks.

If she was refused then your CA would stop. If you’re named as her partner on her ESA then the deduction for CA in that would stop and the carers premium would also stop.
In total this would mean as a couple you would be £46.50/week worse off for ESA and carers allowance.

Hi @BaxtertheBadger72, I can see Poppy has already answered your question but I just wanted to say hello and welcome you to the community.
Fingers crossed your partner's PIP decision comes back with a positive result. Please keep us updated if you can 😊

Many thanks for your response. As she would still need full time care and assistance, despite a potential negative outcome of her PIP decision, can I still remain on her ESA claim?

Many thanks for your response. As she would still need full time care and assistance, despite a potential negative outcome of her PIP decision, can I still remain on her ESA claim or would the DWP remove me from it?

Many thanks. I'm sure it will be a positive outcome, we're just preparing for all scenarios. Poppy's response was indeed helpful. As I am on my partner's ESA claim and her registered carer, would the DWP remove me from this claim should the outcome of her PIP decision be negative? Although she would still require care and assistance as we go through the MR stage, I'm wondering if they would transfer me over to JSA/UC where I would be required to seek employment.

You will still remain on her ESA claim because you live together.

Once again, thank you very much. I was hoping that you would be the one to respond to my query. I've been scrolling through over the last few days and your name pops up repeatedly. It's very reassuring to be able to find someone who can offer a definitive answer. We wanted to be able to understand the consequences of a potential negative outcome to her PIP review. By definition, my partner fulfils the criteria - and has done over the last 9 years - the DWP set out in the PIP eligibility process. I can only hope that she is successful again following her recent review without having to resort to an MR and all that process entails.

You're very welcome! Fingers crossed that everything will be fine and your partner will be awarded.
