ESA timescale from start of claim
Hi all
Could I please have some advice as I’m very confused with regards to ESA.
My husbands SSP stopped from the 7th Dec.
I intially applied for ESA on his behalf on the 13th Oct but as his then fit note expiry date wasn’t until the 30th Nov, I was told to upload the new one on the link they had text me which I have done . This latest fit note runs out on the 28th Feb and can be continuously renewed until he has fully recovered and back to work.
when would the first payment be ? With all the hassle and stress of having to get us on various benefits since his accident , I am assuming it won’t be straight forward but I’m hoping it will be at the end of the month, maybe wishful thinking.
Secondly, I have read there are different groups you can be placed in so I’m assuming he will need to be assessed or will he as he’s on LCWRA also.
I called the ESA number this afternoon as my husbands employers got the SSP final date wrong and we have since been told it was actually a week earlier . The chap I spoke to said he would send it to ‘them’ who I am assuming are the ones that make the decisions but is there any way I can get more info about the update of his application as the only correspondence we had was via text stating confirmation of receiving the sick note.
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and thank you for your support this year !

New style ESA doesn’t start until 7 days after SSP ends. It usually takes a few weeks after that date for payments to start. He should receive a letter at some point.
ESA are the only ones you can speak to regarding this and you said you’ve already spoken to them.

Thank you (again) Poppy.
Will it be backdated ?

You're welcome. If entitled to payments it will start 7 days after SSP ended. He will be paid what is owed.
