Hello I got awarded lcw on 24th December which means I get work allowance on UC I am single with no housing costs, my first sick note I reported was 5th September, the last 3 periods I had earning like SSP and holiday pay my next payment is 12th January on UC the period is 6th December till 5th January will my work allowance be applied for my January assessment period to then be pay on the 12th January and does anyone know if they recalculate my work allowance from the last 3 periods as that's when I first.report sick notes? Confused how it all works, I got told work allowance starts straight after decision maker put letter in your journal which was 24th December just want to know I'll have my work allowance for January payment and hopefully recalculate for the last 3 periods as that's when my sickness started??

The work allowance will apply from the assessment period in which you provided your first fit note. You should see the work allowance calculation in your next statement. Any money owed will be paid as a separate payment.

So it will be backdated to the first fit note 3 months ago, will it tell me how much I am getting in next statement, including the separate payment? Are they pay on the same day or different days if you know??

Backdated money is calculated and sent as a separate payment.

A letter will be added to your Journal when this has been done, including the amount owed. You will then receive this amount into your bank account a few working days later.

After this, each month going forward the work allowance will be included in your statements and UC award.

Of course the work allowance will only apply if you receive earnings. If no earnings then the work allowance is irrelevant.

So the work allowance will be on my January statement if I got awarded on the 24th December half way through my period as it's 6th December till 5th January and I guess it will show work allowance on the new pay statement on the 6th of January when I found out how much I am getting on the 12th and any back payments will be pay before in a separate payment or maybe after, sorry for all the questions just very confused about everything

It will be on your January statement only if the DWP have had time to process the decision and apply the changes to your claim.

Otherwise December/January will be included in the calculations as to what they owe you.

To add further information there's no extra money each month for those with just LCW. If you think you should have been found to have LCWRA and at least one of the descriptors or substantial risk applies then you can challenge that decision by requesting the Mandatory Reconsideration. (MR)

You can see the descriptors here for LCWRA.

Yeah I got told no extra money on lcw but will get my backdated work allowance for them 3 months I earn 700 pound for September, October, November and December periods, so was 0 on all my UC statements, so will they backdate all that because I was entitled to my 393 a month if I had work allowance back then if that's correct??

As we've already advised you will be owed some money due the work allowance which will now be applied from the assessment period in which you provided the first fit note. It may take a few weeks for them to recalculate your statements. Once this is done you'll receive a letter on your journal telling you how much they owe and it will be paid into your bank.

I receive the letter on 4th January saying I am owe 1022 pounds in my journal but have sent to debt management I owe more then that to debt management but it's being review as it was COVID at the time and I put in a mandatory request for the debt to be closed it's in review now been waiting over a month for that, will debt management take all my back pay or at least leave me with some, as was going to use backpay for a new washing machine and bed but worried they might take it all, I do have a agreement in place where I pay 35 pound each month to them to recover my debt that's being reviewed, also they recalculate everything on the 4th of January and my next statement is due 6th of January for my next payment will work allowance be on that statement as they have recalculate for the last 4 statements 2 days ago???

They may take some money to pay back what you owe them. You can contact debt management to ask them not to take it and tell them the items you need to buy with the money. Debt Management team Telephone: 0800 916 0647

If you are still receiving earnings then yes your next statement should take into consideration the work allowance.
