Struggling to Find a Reliable, Affordable Heat Engineer for My Heating System in London – Need Help!
So my heating system decided to give up on me right in the middle of winter, and now I’m stuck without any heat or hot water at home in London. I’ve been trying to find a decent heat engineer, but it’s been super frustrating. I’ve contacted what feels like a never-ending list of potential engineers, but none of them seem to have the right mix of professionalism, affordability, and availability. Some are asking for way too much, others don’t inspire trust, and many are booked up for weeks.
I’m really at my wit's end here and just need help finding someone who can actually fix the problem without charging me a fortune or leaving me in the cold for too long. Has anyone been in a similar situation, or have any recommendations for a good, reliable heat engineer? I’d really appreciate any advice or tips you’ve got!

ask your neighbours if they can recommend anyone?

Not sure if this will help but my water and heating went off Christmas Day. Luckily had family here and after a lot of throwing hands in the air we looked at the boiler and realised pressure had dropped. With the help of you tube we were able to fix it ourselves. Was a simple process. It’s worth checking your boiler just to check it’s not the pressure. Not sure we were supposed to do it ourselves but it’s been fine since. I dread to think what it would have cost otherwise. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Sorry to hear @Loobylou22. These things always happen at the worst possible time of year.
Are you on any local community groups. I have one on Facebook that people often request and provide recommendations. Alternatively, you could try somewhere like "checkatrade" online (link below).
At least this way, you know with checkatrade it's a trusted tradesperson too.
Checkatrade: Book A Trusted Tradesperson
I hope that helps. 🙂
Best wishes,
Holly.

I have a very obscure heating system but found this company very helpful & reliable not sure on cost as I say we have a very obscure & specialized heating system so quite expensive to get help with.

I have a Home Care agreement that covers my Central Heating and Hot Water. They have a number of options for you to choose from, these are added onto your agreement and you pay for this on a monthly Direct Debit. I am not saying that they are the cheapest, they do have advantages. Advantages: 365 days a year emergency cover; Disabled persons priority service; The engineers that come out to you are all trade compliant and registered for the work that they do; all work is Guaranteed; I have always had excellent Customer Service from them.
I am very careful about the trades persons that you get from computer sites. I have found that many of them have rogue traders on them, people who are not qualified, even worse they no idea and use customers for guinea pigs. I have had my fingers burned and my wallet fleeced by such people. I have got some good trades recomendations from my local SELCO store, they seam to recommend regular trades people.
