Hi, my name is marz119! Losing money on UC, how long before I receive transitional payments?
I had my 1st uc payment over 3months ago and still no transitional payments have been made to me yet and I’m losing £252 per month. Person who answers me is not the most helpful and just says I have to wait until it’s been calculated. Money I could have really done with over festivities and with this cold weather. Does anyone know roughly how long it may take before I receive to? Thanks

More often than not it's not always calculated in time for your first payment but usually it's done shortly after that. It shouldn't take as long as you've waited.
Did you claim UC through managed migration after receiving a letter inviting you to apply? if so which benefits were you moving from exactly please?

hi yes I moved after receiving the letter and at the time I was receiving ESA (support group) and child tax credits for my grandson but he was going to be 16 roughly 3 weeks after I started claiming uc.. thanks

When you claimed UC was your grandson still in full time non advanced education?
Did your ESA include the Severe disability Premium?
Does your UC include the LCWRA element? (this is because you were in the Support Group for ESA)
Sorry for more questions but it's just not possible to advise you without all the information.

Hi yes my grandson was still in full time education as such but wasn’t attending school after the summer term returned and was planning on leaving school officially when he was 16. I started claiming uc on 03/10/2024 and he was going to be 16 on 29/10/2024, roughly 3 weeks later. Yes I was in the support group and did have an element of disability payment in the ESA payment. I decided to enquire through my journal today if it was possible to find out what was happening with my transitional payments and the reply I received was this..

I'm glad it's going to be sorted. To be clear as your grandson is no longer in full time education then your UC entitlement will be less than your previous benefits.

I understand that I will no longer be entitled to child tax credit and had not included the amount of tax credit into my uc. I am claiming for myself only and made uc aware that my grandson was not only leaving school but was also not going to be living with me anymore after he was 16.(he was moving in with his dad) All I calculated what I was short, was how much less I was receiving than my ESA and I was no longer getting full housing benefit and I had to pay the shortfall amount which was around £132 per month to my rent. But hopefully they will get it all sorted soon now that it’s being looked at. Thank you much for your help..
