Are you appointee for your son's DLA & ESA?

As you have until March to apply for UC, my recommendation would be to apply to be his appointee for ESA/DLA.

When you apply make them aware of the UC migration and that you need everything in place before the deadline.

You would then become his appointee for UC and can make the application and maintain the claim for him.

If everything doesn't go through in time, you can request an extension for the migration deadline, this is usually granted only in exceptional circumstances.

You could also wait to become his appointee until a claim for UC is made. What I did for my daughter was started a claim on her behalf. Once I had access to her online journal I put a message on there to ask to become her appointee. I was then contacted by a work coach who then put that in place.

This was during Covid but when becoming an appointee now I would expect a DWP representative to visit you in your home.
