Hi I'm wondering if anyone can give me any advice.

Out of the blue last month I received a phone call from DWP saying there had been a "review" and inviting me to fill in IS10 forms for SDP both for my current address and my previous address which I left in 2016.

I filled the forms in and don't have a decision yet but DWP confirm they have received them.

On the face of it I meet the criteria for SDP for the full length of the time since I claimed PIP ie nobody claiming Carers Allowance, lived alone, etc.

My questions are:-

  1. Does the fact that they initiated this and sent me forms for both my old and new address indicate that they are contemplating backdating the award to 2016?
  2. Do they in fact backdate awards for that long?
  3. How long is it likely to take for such a backdating decision to be made?

Thanks in advance.

1/ If there's entitlement for that whole time then yes it will be paid from the date you became entitled to it.

    2/ Answered above.

3/ If entitled going forward then it should be included with your benefit going forward.. (Income Related ESA/JSA/Income Support or Pension Credit)

Any money owed could potentially take several weeks, maybe longer due to the length of time it is.

    Thank you for your response.

Just to update you I have been awarded SDP from 10th January.

As for backdating I haven't heard anything yet but have now received a further letter enclosing another IS10 form for an even earlier address. This has come from Hull Service Centre GMS team with an 0300 telephone number.

Has anyone had any experience with this team?

    Thanks once again in advance.

I've not had any experience with that service centre. It's not usual for them to ask for further information when they are looking at an historic claim.

    Thank you.

I'm assuming you meant not unusual rather than not usual.

The only thing I thought was a bit odd was the 0300 phone number rather than the usual 0800.

Yes I meant not unusual, rather than usual. It maybe an old standard letter and the number is the old number. DWP haven't used 0300 numbers for many years.
