hello- I am self employed- first year on my own in a flat due to fleeing domestic abuse. Getting help from UC. Was hospitalised first week sept 24 and off sick 3 months . I tried to get help via UC50 form but had to return to work due to not wanting to loose my clients so UC stopped my claim. . My first yr of UC ends 04/25. I’m sick with worry I will get no help with my rent as not earning anything over £1k a month whereas UC say my earnings will be over £1550.09 from 04/25. I can’t cope with being badgered with job centre appointments- I have to dice my work with hospital appointments as I have Ankyloosing spondylitis and have to have a full thyroid removal soon also- it’s a mess - will they pressure me to get more work? I’m a “private housekeeper” and the cleaning work of 6-7 hours a day I just cannot do. I’m over 60 now .. scared I will be homeless again . X

Your claim won’t close because you return to work. If earnings reduce your entitlement to zero then a claim remains open for 6 months. After that period with zero entitlement it would then close.

When self employed if you’re gainfully self employed then that start up period will apply for 12 months. After that time the minimum income floor will apply. There are some situations where the minimum income floor will not apply, such as claiming carers element or going through a work capability assessment and being found to have either LCW or LCWRA.

Did you return the UC50 form?

hello Poppy . Thank you- I did send the UC50 form - I have Ankyloosing spondylitis , Costochondritis amongst other Autoimmune diseases.. I received a note in my Journal saying they have stopped my claim because I returned to work.. I have spaced my work out to 6 days a week so I can get through my work load.. it seems I cannot do anything other than look for PAYE work .. my self employed work allows me to work round my flare ups and for when it takes me a whole morning to beable to walk good enough to work- I’m besides myself . And in May I have a full TT removal .. more time off work and no pay and no help towards rent . Seems the older you get the more you are flogged to work . Don’t know what else to do. My work coach I’ve found gives me wrong information.. so I don’t trust him now .
