Blogging for Scope

Hi. I am a disabled blogger and I have just written a draft article about addressing isolation as a disabled person. The content is particularly aimed at young people but it may be useful or relatable for a disabled person of any age. I know Scope have a blog and I wondered how it's possible to get content published on there?
Do you need to have an established portfolio before work is published on the blog?
If so, I am more than happy to share other articles I have written!
Thanks.🙂

Hi Claire, I have absolutely no idea about how to go about publishing through Scope etc., but it seems to be a topic that a lot of people can relate to. Best of luck with it and do give us all a heads-up when it is published (anywhere). I'd like to read it, particularly as it has been written by one with walks-the-walk so to speak. Best wishes, Elizabeth xx

Thanks for replying and your encouragement! You seem to appreciate lived experience articles, so you may relate to another article I have written:
Isolation is a huge concern for so many people like us, that's why spaces like this are so important!🙂

Hi @Claire293 , the only thing I can suggest is sending an email to them helpline@scope.org.uk and hopefully you will be pointed in the right direction . The mods on here are fantastic so I’m sure they may have further ideas . Good luck. It’s an incredible thing to do. I was looking at doing something similar (but as a carer to other carers) after my husband had a near fatal accident but although I started writing, I haven’t had the strength in me to continue but your post has really helped me to start up again so thank you and best of luck !

Thanks for your suggestion! Good luck with your writing too.
It makes sense that you have found it difficult to continue writing, sharing personal experiences can make people feel quite vulnerable sometimes. So it’s important to take a break when you need to but equally know there is huge power in sharing lived experiences, that’s what makes us as humans relatable.

Claire 293,
Well done you! Thank you for writing your article and 'Good Luck' with getting it published!
Personally, I'm not an IT person, neither am I very good at electronic communication but I do read messages that come to me and likewise, respond, if I feel that my lived experiences might benefit others. So, I hope this is something that works for you! Thank you, others will appreciate your efforts.

Hi there @Claire293 and welcome back to the community!
While we don't allow advertising on the community, we always welcome user based content if you wanted to post something here? I loved that part on internalised ableism in the blog you shared. 😁
If you wanted to speak to someone from our content department, I'm sure they'd love to have a chat! I'd use the contact us form on our website and that'll then get forwarded on to the right people.

@Albus_Scope
Thanks for your advice. Sorry I didn't realise advertising was not allowed, glad you liked my other blog though. Thanks for linking the contact form, I might use that instead.
You say about posting something on this community, what are the rules for posting content here? I remember that this community used to showcase pinned blogs and I really liked that feature.

No problem at all @Claire293 you can find our house rules here which breaks things down of what is and isn't allowed. Hopefully that'll help.
The blog showcase was before my time unfortunately, but I'll definitely raise it with the powers that be next week and see if there's anything similar planned in the future. ☺️

Thanks, I appreciate your plan to talk about the blog showcase with the relevant people.
I like the idea of blogging for Scope's main website as I prefer formality, whereas this community is for obvious reasons more about casual chatting. Also I think blogs could reach a wider and more relevant audience on the Scope homepage.
Thanks for linking to the community house rules, it's good to know about alternative routes for posting content.
