They haven’t toughened up any rules. The person that put that message on your journal is incorrect, it’s not the first time they’ve given misleading information.
You do not need to close your claim. I’d advise you to also make a complaint about the advice you were given.
Just make sure you attend that appointment and your claim will be just fine.

I am worried about the biographical interview..I spoke to a friend of mine tonight who said they failed it because they were asked questions regarding an ex partner from 16 years ago, like their NI number and the month and year they claimed income support(a claim from well over 20 years) and the last 4 digits from an old bank account that hasn't been used in over 10 years. I thought the questions would be about what day, and amount you received of a certain benefit or maybe a current partner's NI which you can get off them easily or last 4 digits off a current account. If these are the questions I am gonna get I am massively screwed especially since you don't know what they are gonna ask, unless you are prepared to go through every document from the DWP you have ever received going back decades, letters you may not even have because they are addressed to your ex ex ex partner.

The best advice so far, I concur.

The questions are different for everyone. Otherwise people could just learn the answers beforehand and that would not prevent fraud in the way it's intended to do.
They have to be things that DWP have access to though, so will generally be about benefits and bank accounts.
It is strange that they would ask about old partners and old bank accounts. Perhaps that person had not updated their information. I have not heard of anyone having that issue before.
For reference, I was also messed around and given lots of incorrect advice through the journal about the ID checks and the migration in general. It may be true that they've changed the rules, but they still can't just refuse your claim just because you have no photo ID.
As others have said, keep the appointment, and if you're refused on the day, ask to see someone more senior at the Job Centre.

Thankyou for sharing that's good to know

I Have had an update on my journal telling me and my partner to attend with what iD we do have, no idea what that means....my girlfriend's support worker at a drug treatment centre has stated they can help with the ID situation but don't know what I am gonna do.

The message said bring what ID you do have. You mentioned documents earlier, so bring those as that is the ID you have.
They might combine looking at those documents with a biographical ID check by asking a few questions.
Kind of proves the previous agent was wrong in telling you to close your claim.

It says on the Citizen Card website that you can get certain people to verify your ID using a birth certificate if the know you well, can a business owner of a private limited company do this...since the retail store next door is prepared to do it.

It's not someone you know well that needs to verify your ID, it's UC that need to do that. I do think you're overthinking this.
Take what you have and if it's not enough they will ask you some questions, which quite a few people here have already advised you.

Im talking about getting an ID card from the post office...it's called the Citizen Card. I'm asking about the verification process for getting one of those cards because I have someone that will verify for me, that way I won't have ID issues in the future. I was just asking if a business owner was an eligible verifier. I'm not overthinking anything..it is common sense.

Ive already applied for it and paid for a fast service and once my identity is verified by a third party can have the card in 3 days.

Hi! I’m pretty sure your GP can give you a letter confirming who you are as this happened to someone I know and she didn’t have photo ID or her own bank account!
Good Luck0 -
The Citizen card is a PASS card so would be ok for ID. I have one myself

Thank you. I did not realise they were the same thing.
