Hi, my name is RosieRo! Carers allowance, what route should we take?
Hi
I wonder if anybody can help
we are a married couple on UC migrated from Working Tax where we better off.
I have applied for PIP and capability assessment is in with DWP|
My husband has cared for since September after I was diaignosed with a rare skin disease which is life changing.
I have put fit notes in, my last one was for 3 months.
My question is
Carers allowance, what route should we take?
They are expecting him to find work, but I will be left alone
Is it better to claim the carers allowance as its long term?
Or will I lose out it my PIP application is succesful?
Sorry for all the questions
Just don't know where to turn as the UC advisers are not helpful and not us what we can claim. But they are taking the bedroom tax from us @£66 per month. My husband uses the second bedroom because I over heat, can't stop itching, need the windows open even when it's 7* with a summer duvet on.

Sorry Universal Credit told us we would be better off
Were not, we are worse off and 50% of our benefit just goes on rent alone

If your PIP application is successful:
Carers Element can be claimed by your husband under UC. This would remove him from work requirements.
There would be no financial gain to Carers Allowance, as it's deducted in full from UC.
If awarded Daily Living PIP you can ask for an extra bedroom to be paid for under Housing Element, under the grounds that your disability makes it unsuitable to share

You will need a daily living award if PIP for your partner to claim carers element.
You say you’re worse off on UC. Did you claim because you received a letter asking you to claim UC? Or did you claim for a different reason?
For your rent are you living in social/council housing or privately renting?
Do have dependant children on your claim?
