IC and ESA confusion
hi everyone
I had to move over to UC Jan 8th.
I am so very confused as I got letter was not expecting about how I have moved to ESA contribution based due to UC.
I called them but no clearer really.
the letter says this contribution ESA only gets paid only for a year so surely this means after a year I will be greatly worse off, about £500 a month.
The whole process has left me very unwell than I usually am
can anyone help explain?
Thank you for your help.

That’s a standard letter they send out. Your ESA is not time limited to 1 year because you’re in the Support Group. It’s paid for as long as you remain entitled to it.
I responded on another thread yesterday where you asked this question. This was my response….
As part of your ESA was contributions based this will continue but revert to New style ESA. It is not paid for 1 year, it’s paid for as long as you remain entitled to it.
For ESA you will receive a rate of £276.40/fortnight. This will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement at a rate of £598.86/month. The amount looks more but there’s 4.3 weeks in a month, not 4 weeks.
The letter you received for ESA is a standard letter. You do not need a fit note and you won’t need another assessment.
You will need to agree to your claimant commitments which will just be to agree to report all changes.
Therefore you will receive ESA fortnightly and UC monthly.
