Questions about uc

Hi,

I had my UC migration letter just before Christmas. I am to transfer by 7th March. I've been advised to apply just after my last payment before that date.

However, to confuse matters. Some of you may remember me trying to get a bungalow. Which I finally got the council to change their mind. I have a bungalow. I viewed a week before Christmas. But, there is some jobs that need doing. There was no walk in shower, so that needs to be done. Also the fact, I need a ramp to the door as there was a high step and the OT saw me struggle with my walker and the step. They've said this work will take around 12 weeks so I know I'm not going to move before I migrate.

However, I may end up moving while the process of the migration to uc is going on. I'm not finding answers on what I'm going to ask. As I'll possibly still be in my current property when I apply, I know I can only put details of rent/ct on this property. What happens if I do move and what happens with rent/ct if it's while I'm waiting for it to be sorted?

I need out of this property as of my neighbour. And my property is not suitable. Where the bungalow is and will be suitable once they complete the work. So it's not a possibility to wait till UC has been sorted (if I hear about the keys before it's sorted). It could be later than 12 weeks as they knew with Christmas and New Year work had stopped via council till 6th Jan. So the 12 weeks didn't really start until then. And was advised paperwork and work would take 10 to 12 weeks outside of the holiday period. So at present it's only 2/3 weeks since works would have begun.

Thanks in advance.

If you move after you've migrated to UC then you would just report a change of circumstances and tell them you've moved house. You will need to give details of your new landlord and because it's social/council housing you will not need to provide proof of any rent because UC will contact them directly.

Council Tax is administered by your local authority.

It's the same council. Just moving into a suitable property.

It would still be a change of circumstances for a change of address.

Thank you both. Yeah if I move after the migration it seems easier. However, I'm not sure what happens if I move during the process. I think I'll need to call the council and find out if they can shed some light.

@poppy123456 OK thank you. I did ask my MP but was asked if I had contacted the DWP directly. I try to avoid talking to the DWP. If I had had a proper date to get keys I'd ask for an extension on the migration. But I don't have any idea. And was advised if I ask for updates it would put the work on hold. As apparently some people who need work doing via OT do call weekly to find out when they can move in...
