LCWRA assessment
Hey all ..last year I helped my mom apply for UC and LCWRA after the affects of a stroke affected her physical and mental abilities she's currently living in supported living and has carers who come in to help her with day to day stuff like making meals getting dressed.in October she had an appointment for an Lcwra assessment we arranged for someone to be with her as she wouldn't be able to answer questions herself due to cognitive abilities and confusion the caller called only letting the phone ring twice not giving time to answer then called again half hour later this time only letting the phone ring once again not giving time for them to answer ..
We then spent months trying to get another appointment which was today .again. We got a support worker to be there for the call at the time of the call they called and said they are running behind and cannot do the assessment so now thats two assessments they haven't been able to do ..
We are extremely worried as my mom is struggling financially after he tidying the extra for supported living she's left with under 280 pm to lay for everything else like food gas electric water council tax transport to important medical phone bill so she can log on to her UC appointments clothes toiletries pet food +she's had 2cats for 10 years and we haven't been able to re-home them .her recent gas and electric bill was 150 due to her having nerve conditions which make her extremely cold easily pound leaving 130 for everything else it's just not livable we are worried about her loosing her supported living bungalow as it took so much to get that sorted for her is there any way we can complain or do we have to just take on the chin and just wait for another appointment .the support worker did ask if they can book one in today but they said no they will have to wait until one comes through again.its really frustrating these assessments keep being cancelled especially when she has had to wait for one and arrange someone to be with her

You could try a formal complaint to the assessment provider. I think it's more than reasonable that you complain after they failed to keep two appointments.

Contact the citizens advice - they are good at helping with this stuff and can check she is getting the right support too.

Hi @rebeccd89, this sounds like you are having a paper-based assessment. This is more often than not a good thing for the claimant (yourself). Do let us know how the decision goes though!
Hi @faydhar, that situation sounds incredibly frustrating! I honestly might have complained after the first instance as that is barely enough time for someone who doesn't have any difficulties answering the phone. You will have to look at capitas complaints procedure moving forward.
In the mean time I will share some links that might help with bills and finances until you can finally get WCA sorted.
We have an advice section that covers help with bills and cost of living, it covers help with food, energy, other utilities and more. I hope it might be of some help!
If it's okay to ask, how old is she? You could also consider applying for PIP or Attendance Allowance depending on whether she is pension age or not.

@Jimm_Scope hey shes 62 her the housing officer who runs the supported living where my mom is living has helped her apply for pip I did want to fill the form in myself for her as I know more about her conditions my mom is unable to explain and doesn't know any information such when her hospital appointments where names of the conditionsbshe has I'm hoping the housing officer rings me for help .we just really want this lcwra assessment done now it's not only the financial burden waiting it's the burden of getting fit notes mom struggles to get to the doctor's and as she has moved since the last fit note was put in she's now at a new doctors where it seems extremely impossible to get an appointment they won't give her a fit note with out seeing her I'm also unable to take her to the doctor's appointments as I don't live near her I don't drive also I'm not too well myself I have RA and recently came out of ICU after having COVID pneumonia so it's been hard work sorting everything for her obviously with capita making it more difficult with them cancelling appointments.we know ATM she's getting all the monetary help she can we applied for pip applied lcwra applied for council tax benefit we applied for help with furniture and carpets appliances with the council so it's just waiting for her housing officer to fill the pip form and the assessment for lcwra to finally happen .also with UC we have to keep explaining why she cannot make it to work search appointments due to her stroke she has carers who come in they don't have set times untill they turn up she can't get dressed plus she's unable get to places by herself she gets confused so we need the lcwra assessment to hopefully get awarded
