Housing Benefit

I received a letter yesterday about being over paid housing benefit £113.97. Plus underneath that was worded like this. I told you about another overpayment some time ago . £888.50. is still outstanding? Plus they have cancelled my housing benefit from 01/10/2024 because I am now on Universal credit?

Please could someone give me some advice cos I really don't know what's happening. I suffer with my mental health and not very good without this added to it aswell.

I wonder if they'll pass the debt to DWP to recover, does the letter explain why it says you've been overpaid?

Your housing benefit ended because you migrated to UC. Your rent is now included with your UC known as housing element. Housing benefit would have only continued if you live in temporary or supported housing.

If the letter doesn't explain why you have an overpayment I'd advise you to ring your local Authority and ask them to send you a full breakdown of the overpayment.

Hey @Greentench, is this the first time you have heard about the earlier overpayment? You mention not getting a letter, but I just want to check there was no other attempts to communicate it to you.

I would contact your Local Authority as Poppy mentions and ask for a full breakdown, as well as when they first attempted to contact you and what method it was by, and if there were any other attempts to contact you about it prior to the letter you received yesterday. That is a big number to suddenly just drop on you.
