Will I be forced to claim Universal Credit if we separate?

Hi.
I am currently in the Support group on the enhanced rate. The claim is in my name, as with my housing & council tax benefits.
When my partner moved in as my carer, they just added him, but all the paperwork remains in my name. They then gave my severe premium to him, as carer's allowance.
I need to know - if he moves out (leaves me), will I still be able to continue on ESA, reverting to the way it was, initially (before he moved in), or will they make me claim Universal Credit, please?
Neither of us are working, so there will be no other changes, financially.
Thanks so much

Income Related ESA is ending and you will soon be invited to claim Universal Credit. Migration letters are currently being sent out and you should expect your anytime from now up until December 2025.
If in the meantime you split from your partner then yes you will remain on your ESA, if you haven't migrated to UC in the meantime.

Thank you very much.
If I am migrated onto UC, and then he leaves, will I lose any transitionary payment and have to start a new claim, do you know?

If you are migrated onto UC then he leaves, yes you'd lose any Transitional Protection as your claim changes from a couple to single.
You would not have to claim again but instead report the change. Your next payment will then be based on a single person.

Welcome to the community @JessicaP 😊 I hope you are doing well today and I am glad our community have helped you out!
If you are wanting to read up a little more about migration, so you know what is happening before you receive the letter, you can find a section on it here: Moving to Universal Credit and transitional protection | Disability charity Scope UK
