DVLA Medical Revoked License

Hi @calflye
I had my full license revoked after telling my GP that I felt that my psychiatric medication was affecting my driving many years ago. Like you, I wasn’t in a rush to return to driving until I felt absolutely able to do so. I thought that the DVLA would think that I was taking the initiative in telling my doctor. Nope 👎 After a few years I reapplied for my licence. It was a nightmare. Yes you reapply to the DVLA who then write to your doctor. Depending on your mental health history, they may say that they don’t feel confident enough to say for certain that you are fit to drive.
I do understand to some degree. The doctor doesn’t want the repercussions if you were involved in an accident for example. So - it gets sent back to the DVLA Medical Department for their doctor to assess you. It takes months, and then you get a short term medical driving license back. Mine was a year. On expiry, more waiting, but because I complained, they did send me a letter to hand to the police if I was stopped whilst driving. It’s horrendous. The only word I can use. The best website that can help you and give you clear advice is Mind.
Best wishes x

@older01 Thank you so much for the reply. So sorry that sounds like a nightmare.
With reapplying, I assume I apply the same way I did with my initial application to get my provisional? Fill out the D1 form. I assume I wouldn't need a new picture?

Hi @calflye
It’s exactly the same as reapplying for a regular driving license. You should do exactly what you thought. Send off the completed D1 form, and I wish you the best of luck with your application. It’s a very slow moving system at the DVLA, and they regularly blame the backlog of applications with the medical department. I sincerely hope that you have better service than I did. I would like to think that I was the exception, but I have heard that it takes a very long time to be processed.
