Disabled needs a garden path

I am a amputee (left leg above knee) and wheelchair bound, I love my garden and even came 3rd in the Headland Garden Competition. Now I cannot even get along my garden as I need a path fitted. I tried the Council and 13 but got nowhere. I am now starting to get very depressed watching my garden get no attention by me.

All I need is a path to get my wheelchair along. My chair sinks into the grass.

PLEASE can you help me

Have you gotten any quotes from recommend companies to see if it might be affordable to get done yourself?

You could try looking for someone giving away paving slabs or suitable stones to reduce costs, and pay for them to be installed.

Places like Freecycle, Freegle, Facebook Marketplace or online local community groups.

    Turn2us has a grant finder

    https://grants-search.turn2us.org.uk/

Do you have a college locally or a bit further away that offers gardening/landscaping courses? The students might be interested in work experience.

In the meantime as a short term measure, hiring a gardener to do the required maintenance would make your view a little less depressing 😊

Have you considered using plastic mesh?

It comes in all sorts of sizes, it's not expensive, you could put it where you chose and move it if you fancy.

These are made for gravel or grass and there are lots of variations made by other companies:

How about getting in touch with the people who run community service/payback or whatever it's called now to see if they could help or advise where to get help.

Have you tried your local HIA service..home improvement agency? They have handymen for jobs in the house and garden like mending paving slabs etc. If you are 55+ Age UK may have someone local who could offer help with a path and also reduced cost gardening. My Mum had someone from Age UK.

    Best wishes

I see comments here which are all very helpful. I am not sure where you are in the country but it might be useful looking at your local school. Yes I said school, since we started an program on Scope to get "any" access to play areas changed so that "all children" can enjoy the facilities in your own area. HOW IT WORKS> In order to find out who can or cannot access these areas we send groups of children to the parks and play areas TO PLAY. You then ask them what you would like to see added, or inproved, and if they think any Neurodiversant Child, (Disabled) would be abled to use the same equipment. Then when

Children do not see a Disability and many either have a friend who is disabled or knows of one close to them.

When back in the classroom, the project is to "DESIGN YOUR OWN PLAYGROUND" with disability access in mind.

Scope in Cardiff with the Parks Department that were going round Painting and Decorating play areas have changed the way everyone views a Disability and is now being run at most schools. The 4 Parks around me are always being filled with screaming kids, (and I didn't say and some disabled ones.) because the parents appreciate the effort that all have done where only certain items could be used by them while others children ran around sc reaming and shouting.

If there is no screaming and shouting in the play arreas then there is something wrong. Worried that a wheel Chair person can't use a SWING? You need to come to Cardiff as some (not all yet) have a rope system that allows a wheel chair to be attached and used as a normal swing.

Some time I don't like to use the term Normal, since what is normal to them is not to you.

That said, Scope with your local council can make a project of your garden, by bringing the kids down to your house and looking around the garden and listening to whjat you want to achieve and let them design a Wheel Chair friendly gardgen with possibly raised beds, etc.

Competition winner picked by you, wins a little cup or certificate and gets their name in the local paper or school magasine, and may be £50. Which could be raised by each class partisipates and puts in 20 pence, you throw in a £5 or what you want. Winner takes all.

(this is only a suggestion as we have fould that when the children become involved they do other things in the school like raffles and Boot sales, and this brings in more revenue to the school, gets parents involved and the kids coming up with a solution.

Sorry its a long post but, because people think they are alone when disabled they need to realise that you have already started the ball rolling by being on the Scope Forum.

Your never alone when you have Scope as a friend.

If there is no school near you then post your area here and I will what is near you to assist.
