Unless you're living in either supported or temporary housing, then yes your HB will stop 2 weeks after you submit a claim for UC. After that your rent will be paid in with your UC known as the housing element.
UC is paid once every month and your first payment will be about 5 weeks after you submit your claim. Therefore the gap will be about 3 weeks from receiving your last HB to your first UC payment. When you receive that UC payment it will be for 1 months money.
You can ask UC to pay your landlord directly and they will do that on the same day you receive your money. This way your rent will be paid and you won't need to worry. If there's a shortfall of rent, you will be responsible for paying that yourself.
You can request an advance payment for UC but this will need to be repaid back and your future UC payments will be reduced until it's paid back.

You will need to tell your landlord. Once you receive your UC then you rent should be up to date but UC is always paid 1 month in arrears.
