Moving in together on UC

hi everyone
I would like to ask a big question as it’s a big thing to move in with my partner full time as it is let alone the minefield of benefits we will lose or gain etc so I’m hoping someone can shed some light please..
myself I get UC lwc
My partner gets UC lwc enhanced pip on both child benefit for the 4 children
Would we lose much money and am I able to claim a carers element as I’d be moving in to care full time for her and the children?
Thanks in advance

Try a benefits calculator to estimate joint entitlement.

Hi,
Do you currently receive LCWRA rather than LCW? And do either of you have Transitional Protection after migrating from Legacy Benefits?
Only one of a joint claim can get LCWRA, so you would lose that, but you could claim Carers Element to make up some of that loss.
You will only get one basic UC rate at the joint rate, instead of having two single rates, so again the overall payments would be reduced there.
From the info we have, it looks like you should get:
Joint couples basic rate over 25 - £617.60
1x LCWRA - £416.19
1x Carers Element - £198.31Total: £1232.10
Currently you should both get £1619.28 for one single basic rate and one LCWRA each. So a loss of nearly £400 a month, but outgoings should be cheaper when you live together.
The housing costs and child elements should remain the same for your partner.
If either of you have Transitional Protection then those calculations may not be totally accurate. You may prefer to try a benefits calculator online as well.

Remember it is cheaper for two people to live together, as opposed to two people running individual households.
