Universal credit and pension contributions
My question is regarding the disregard for pension contributions. Is it the same for universal credit as it was for tax credits? For tax credits I used to have to add the tax relief on , so for their calculations it was 125 pounds for every 100 pounds I saved into my pension scheme.
The reason I'm asking is because this is how I've been reporting it to UC for a year, but last month they refused this figure and only used the lower figure without tax relief added. They say I'm no longer entitled to use the full figure for any disregard of income and now they only use the figure without tax relief added. I've tried looking on the web for information but can't find out if they are correct. However I did see something about them using a higher disregard for pension contributions, meaning a 100 pound contribution added 65 pounds to the benefit instead of 55 pounds. Is this a new rule? Or Should they still be using the full amount with tax relief added? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
