UC decision on PIP back pay.

Hi guys,
I’m a PIP appointee for my adult son.
I’ve made a previous post stating that he has received £11k in back pay from PIP due to a national court case where lots of people were contacted and asked for details so they can review their case.
I am his appointee but the money is paid in to my account and we give it to him in increments when he needs it.
I was advised to mention it on my journal and explain where it had come from. I had already done this.
I’ve just received a message from UC saying that I need to declare it as capital and explain where it came from and a decision maker will decide if it will affect my UC or not.
Is this normal?
I was under the impression that it would be a straightforward ‘no problem’ as…
A) it’s back pay from PIP and
B) it’s my son’s PIP and he’s not even on our UC claim.
Thanks.
