hey there everyone I was wondering if you could help me out I have a question about carers my mom has carers that come in 4 times a day and she has to pay for the whole hour even though they stay for 20mins this has resulted in me taking a 3grand debt in my name for her and now she owes 6 grand obviously she can’t pay this and neither can I pay the 3 grand is this correct about her having to pay for the hour even though they stayed no where near that time. They want 6hundred a month for care but she only receives 4 hundred disability payments so how can she pay this amount we are very much in need of help

Did she have a needs assessment prior to the care package starting, including a financial assessment?

If it's unaffordable then you need to go back to the council and ask for a reassessment.

You'd need to complain to the agency about not getting the time that's been agreed.

I'd also consider speaking to local welfare rights

hi @ddick123 I worked in care for while once, in people's homes. Often when family requested it we would stay the full allocated time. We had to log arrival and departure times. Carers usually don't get paid for travel time between clients, so if all tasks were complete we would go to the next client. Some clients I would do the tasks, then sit and chat with them the rest of the time. Speak to the care company and insist on full length visits, or renegotiate costs if your mum is happy with shorter ones. Hope that helps x

unfortunately she lost both legs last year one then the other 5weeks later she had the care sorted out from the hospital it was put in place before she was discharged I am her full time career and I am there 4 times a day they only take her to the toilet and change her and do her breakfast and a brew. I deal with the rest not a piece of paper has been seen never mind sighned meaning a contract and we were never exsplained to about having to pay extra money for the care or anything. It may sound stupid but I was never told we had to pay additional money because the government only covers a thousand pounds of care and we have to cover the rest anyway the carers have been taking the mail and frowning it under the table so I found the stack of mail couple of weeks ago and the bills haven’t been paid for months everything is in debt and I was never able to pay all the financial bills and it didn’t even cross my mind that my brother was not in control of the bills anyway they are doing a minimum amount of work and being paid for the hours that they are not doing but we are paying for

Do you still have mums discharge paperwork? There might be mention of the care package on there.

Is it possible arrangements were made with your Mum while she was in hospital, and that she herself didn't explain anything to you?

The care agency should have details of who requested them to provide the care so that could be your starting point to try and sort this out.

You can contact adult services at your local council for assistance also.

Her social worker would be a good person to contact for help.

You can ask for a Subject Access Request from your local council, the date range being around when the care was set up. They will send you all documents that they hold with regards to your Mum.

    https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/official-information/

Google search "subject access request (your local authority name)"

I am just chasing my tail her social worker came to the house in august last year after she had just lost her legs and hasn’t been seen or heard from until last week she has ms and rumortoid arthritis and is unable to feed herself or any other critical things she lives alone and I had to ring the social worker who told me she didn’t have an allocated worker but Is on record **** sorry but I’m fuming the social worker should be fully involved with her and should be doing a regular routine check and how she has not been allocated any personal social worker is beyond me and disgusting
