Loss of council tax reduction entitlement
I have been moved from ESA to UC this week and on receipt of my first statement telling me how much I would receive, there is the shocking news that despite my income from benefits remaining the same, give or take a few pounds, my reduction entitlement has dropped from 90% to 25% for my council tax. The woman at the council told me on the phone that there is a new system with UC for assessing people's incomes, which clearly is ridiculously punitive and makes no sense to me. Are there procedures for challenging such decision or are they set in stone so people like myself have no choice but to pay what they can ill afford ?

Council Tax Reduction is decided upon at a local level, each local authority decides what scheme they use, set their own rules and are free to make changes to the level of help given.
Any complaints or challenges would need to be taken up with your local authority.
