Floor lifts and accessible homes

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice please about floor lifts and making changes to a house to make it more friendly and accessible.

I have a very little one, and seems mad to think about him being an older child let a lone a teenager or independent adult but I am very aware that I need to keep this in mind when making decisions like buying a house. And that being said, not completely know what his needs will be as he gets older, but we have a rough idea.

In an ideal, money was no option world I would buy us a massive ranch with all the bells and whistles where all was accessible and easy for him to use as he grows and develops and for me as I get older!

However, sadly not our situation! So I'm reaching out to know if anyone has used any company who make floor lifts rather than stair lifts. Are they an arm and a leg? Are they successful? Or are they a bit unfriendly? Or is it best to avoid and stick with having everything all on one level? Which had been my initial thought.

I just want to make life for our little one as hassle free as I can where I can.

Any help would be great, or share what you have done to make things accessible.

Thank you! 😊

Hi @Eli_22 i'm sorry you've not had a response to this yet. I'm afraid I don't have much experience so I wouldn't want to advise wrong. I wonder if it's worth speaking to some companies, maybe checking their customer feedback as well on somewhere like Trustpilot Reviews: Experience the power of customer reviews.

I hope you're able to get something sorted for your family and at a reasonable price.

    Best wishes

    Hi @Eli_22

Have you approached your Local Authority regarding adaptions? You would need an occupational therapist etc assessment for your child, then you can apply for a disabled facilities grant. They would look at variations on whats best depending on circumstance and either adapt a space on one level, or give access to via an internal lift or stair lift, again dependant upon needs. Link below shows more info.
