Early Migration Problem.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help.

I have to migrate to UC by 22/5/2025.

I started the UC application a few weeks back but ran into problems with questions I couldn't answer (rent free weeks, service charges etc).

Anyway, I received an email saying I had to sign into my account by 3/4/2025 or make a new claim.

Now I'm confused, I signed into the account today but ran into another issue that I'm not sure of.

Now I've read if I don't complete within 28 days of starting the UC claim that I lose my benefits even though there's over a month left before the migration notice expires.

Does anyone know if this is correct, I don't want to make any mistakes on the new claim which is why I've been cautious.

Thanks in advance, this has been a real worry for a few weeks now.

You have 28 days to submit your form after starting it.

Once 28 days has passed, the form is deleted and you need to start again.

    Your benefits only stop:

    When you submit the form.

    When the migration date passes.

If you need support with the application, Citizens Advice offer a Help to Claim service. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/claiming/contact-us-about-universal-credit/

    Thanks Kimi87, much appreciated.

One last question if I may.

My benefits are due to be paid in on the 4/4/25. If I complete the UC application tomorrow the 3/4/25 will my benefits auto stop or will I still get my benefits paid on Friday 4/4/25?

    Thanks again.

This is another slight issue (sorry can't edit the above post).

Would I now be better off waiting a few days for the new tax year or will everything be automatically updated ie rent increases etc?

    Cheers.

Most legacy benefits are paid in arrears.

Once you apply for UC they stop apart from what you are owed up until the application date, plus one further payment of around two weeks worth (known as the run on payment) to help you financially manage until the first UC payment.

Honestly if it was me I'd definitely claim once the new financial year had started.

    Thanks again.

So when this claim is abandoned, when in two weeks time I make a new claim, will I need a new user name and will not the old user name be linked to my phone number and email address?

Or is it all just brand new and everything is wiped.

Sorry for the panic but the email I received just said "Sign in by the 3/4/25" and not complete the claim by the 3/4/25 so I wasn't sure if "signing in" again today even though I haven't completed the application may have any relevance going forward.

I believe everything is deleted, the form and the account details although I'm not 100% on that.
