Andrew Gurza, who has cerebral palsy and is a full-time power wheelchair user, has opened up about his experience with sex work and why it's helped to change his life

When it comes to sex work, people's opinions vary greatly.

However, one man has recently shared how it has transformed his life. Andrew Gurza, who has cerebral palsy and uses a power wheelchair full-time, promotes sex work as a therapeutic service for people with disabilities.

He has been collaborating with classified ad site, Vivastreet, to share his experiences of meeting escorts, discussing why he first decided to meet an escort and what the encounter was like.

The disability awareness consultant, who has over 26,000 followers on Instagram, wants to raise awareness about how sex work can be life-affirming for people with disabilities. The conversation around disability often centres on physical needs such as accessibility, employment and healthcare, but the need for intimacy and emotional connection is frequently overlooked.

For many, living with a disability can be isolating and achieving intimacy can be difficult. One pathway that provides people with disabilities the opportunity to experience these vital aspects of life is through sex work.

Andrew, 40, from Canada, said: "I have spastic, quadriplegic cerebral palsy, and I need help with just about everything. I live with carers coming in five hours a day to help me with everything from dressing, to showering to eating. I am, what I would consider severely disabled.

"I hadn't had any physical touch in almost a year back in 2017. I was lonely and just wanted to feel pleasure. I didn't have a lot of money, but I kept coming back to this site where you could hire someone. I stumbled on Jon, the worker who I have now seen for seven years.

"I just decided in that moment that I deserved intimacy, touch and connection. I had enough money at the time, so I took the leap, and it was one of the best decisions. Sex work has made me more confident, and has shown me that disabled people do deserve touch and intimacy."

Additionally, Andrew expressed that sex work has taught him that he is capable of giving pleasure as well. He acknowledged that some might find this "trivial", but he believes many people assume that disabled individuals can't provide pleasure.

His experiences have debunked this misconception, and he's eager for others to understand this. Andrew explained that it's significantly improved his life.

For him, engaging with sex workers is a means to explore his desires and allows him to experience intimacy when he chooses. He finds this to be a "nice change".

Addressing those who may not grasp the importance of escorts, he offered a poignant message, adding: "You'll understand one day when you are disabled and you want intimacy, but no one will look at you because they think disabled people shouldn't do that – then you'll learn quite quickly how valuable sex work is."

Nice one, mate. Good on ya!

Society can be so dismissive of our sexual needs.
