Hello,

I migrated over during the first week of April from ESA Income Related Support Group (joint claim) and after receiving notice of what my first payment would be, they have left out the disability part LCWRA completely. My award is as follows:

Your payment this month is £401
This will be paid by 8pm on 13 May 2025
What you're entitled to
Standard allowance
£628.10
You get a standard amount each month. You said you're in a couple
Housing
£541.75
Need help understanding your housing?
You said per month the total rent for your property is £478.44 and the service charges are £63.31.
You will have to pay your housing costs to your landlord.
Carer
£201.68
You said that ____ is caring for someone.
Transitional protection
£0.00
Your Universal Credit entitlement is not less than your previous benefits, so we have not added an extra payment.
Total entitlement before deductions
£1,371.53
What we take off (deductions)
Other benefits
We take money off your payment
As this is an average of other benefits that you're continuing to claim
___ :Carer's Allowance minus‑ £360.97
____: Employment and Support Allowance minus‑ £609.05
Money, savings and investments
minus‑ £0.00
We have taken £0.00 off your Universal Credit payment because you have money, savings and investments of £5,870.87.
You must tell us if this changes so that we can pay you the correct amount on time.
The first £6,000 of your money, savings and investments does not affect your payment. If you have over £6,000 up to £16,000, every £250 reduces your Universal Credit by £4.35. For any remaining amount that is not a complete £250, a further £4.35 is also deducted.
Total deductions
minus‑ £970.02
Your total payment for this month is
£401.51

This has affected my Council Tax as I'm now being billed for a higher amount when I normally receive 100% relief.

It's really starting to panic me, I've put 2 messages in the payment part of my journal which have been ignored,. 've contacted them via phone and they say they have sent a message to my Case Manager.

Is there anything else I can or should've done?

Thanks in advance!

    You've done everything right.

Just to check the person missing LCWRA element is not the same person receiving Carers Element?

There is no need to panic about Council Tax. The bill will be re calculated once your LCWRA element is added. This might not see any changes though.

Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level. Each area has different rules. Some areas treat UC income differently to legacy benefits, and as a consequence some people have seen an increase in the amount they have to pay towards Council Tax.

    Hi,

Thank you for responding so quickly!

The person who should be on LCWRA, is not a carer so I'm not sure why it's taking so long for the WCA from ESA to be added to the UC claim. It will be 5 weeks on Monday since the migration started. I had hoped it would've been completed by then but I'm starting to really panic that it's going to take a long time to be added and it could possibly be triggering a WCA assessment - the last one was in 2018 I think.

I've contacted the council to let them know and they've also put a note on their Council Tax Reduction system that LCWRA should have been added to my UC claim.

I hope I've done everything correctly!

It won't trigger a re assessment.

Hopefully your messages are acted on soon and the LCWRA element is added on.

It seems daft when the deduction for ESA is on the statement correctly!

hi @BigHeadSpider I’ve been in a similar situation I migrated Beginning of April and after receiving my first UC statement the LCWRA element was missing for me too, I was on ESA in Support Group.Ive been told in my journal that there is a back log of transferring ESA information over to UC and that payment will be processed once they have that information.

It has also lead to me loosing my 100% reduction Council Tax and received a bill all most instantly, they don’t mess about, they knew that I was going to be getting New Style ESA when I had no clue!! And I have still not received any information about this.

I have found the Migration incredibly confusing as well, you are not given enough information prior to Migrating on what to expect.

That's what confused me the most but when you send messages, phone them, do everything that you can and they don't respond, it sends you into a tailspin.

My journal says the Case Manager should contact me by 6pm on Monday (a fun weekend then) so I'll update this thread when I have an update.

    Thanks for your help! ^^

It sounds like we are in the same boat!

Thank you for your update regarding your situation, hopefully both of our situations are rectified sooner rather than later!

A brief update: as @nic21 has previously reported, there is supposedly a delay between the LCWRA info being transferred from ESA to UC. My case has been flagged so hopefully it will be fixed sooner rather than later.

Is there anyone that's been through this and can give us all a time frame as to when this will be updated?

    Thanks in advance!

I've just had a message that mentioned the delay in the ESA info being transferred to UC.

Are you still waiting? I migrated on exactly 5 weeks ago today and I'm hoping it's sorted sooner rather than later!

I've received the same info today about there being a delay.

Has anything been resolved for you yet or are you still waiting?

hi @BigHeadSpider no I’ve not heard anything regarding my LCWRA element yet.

I received my first UC statement on 3rd May and first payment on the 7th May.

I haven’t been given any time scale 🤨

I am mixed age couple. I am a pensioner and need own room .we are both disabled as well as adult daughter.they sent me message asking why I can't share bedroom.i have a hospital bed and commode. They would not accept this and kept saying they needed more details. The equipment I have is off disability resource team. They accepted what I put but said you might not get extra bedroom. I don't feel I need to go into detail about why I have equipment and just repeated what I had in bedroom. I feel uneasy. My daughter also is severely unwell. Sorry for the rant. Thought the bad old days were gone.

    that’s great news for you @BigHeadSpider 🫶🏻

I believe the Council Tax reduction rules are dependent on the area you live in.

I was getting a 100% reduction with my income related ESA but now with the Migration I’ve got to find an extra £47 a month when my income is exactly the same !
And because Council Tax is separate it will not be covered with transition protection 🤨

    Thank you!

I received a 100% reduction too, which went down to 80% after I migrated. I've notified my council that LCWRA has been added to my claim and I'll know after they've updated my claim whether I'll receive the 100% reduction in my new bill.

Have you told your council about the issue?

@BigHeadSpider From looking at the information the Council sent me it looks like the issue is because of the New Style ESA as it is classed as Income.

I'm not sure if that makes a difference but hopefully someone on here can clarify.

Fingers crossed it works out for you!
